About the Event
The wonderful thing about jazz is that each performance reflects the sum of its parts, i.e.., the players that make up any given show. Each player brings his or her experience, proclivities, and passions to whatever is being performed so that the end result can not be known beforehand. The Paul Harper Quartet, while being ‘led’ by Mr Harper, is always a coalition of its parts with each member bringing their own ideas about what material to perform and how to approach that material. We all have a fairly large history with this music we call jazz, and we like to present a variety of styles and types of compositions that reflects our collective history. We also try to keep the audience engaged by presenting a variety of music (and that keeps us engaged too).
Music is not so much a profession as a calling. It reflects the best in humanity - that which makes us human. It is about communicating, with the audience and within the band. It is about speaking in another language of sound and time. We hope that in our small way we move you, the audience, through our music making.
